Li (last name), Xi (first name), female. Emerging artist, interdisciplinary artist, new media artist. Xi Li was born in Harbin, China in 1997 and has been based in Auckland, New Zealand since 2014. She received Bachelor of Photo media from Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design in 2019, and currently studying for Master of Fine arts at Elam School of Fine Arts at the University of Auckland.


Xi Li's work practice includes film, digital image, photography, installation, performance, 3D animation, VR, game design and multidisciplinary fields. She explores various experimental contents through philosophical framework, with topics covering identity, ideology, subculture, popular aesthetics, social commentary, etc.


Xi Li is committed to blending Western and Eastern visual imagery, capturing the wonderful fusion of macroscopic thinking and subjective perception, and completing the challenge of concrete expression of theoretical research. In the series of works such as "Brain Island" (2019-present) and "Spirit Ether" (2021), after in-depth inner questioning and the corresponding complicated and profound visual language interpretation, she presents a "spiritual world" containing society and self.
